Marlin Wayne “Zip” Martz, age 98, died peacefully on Friday, December 7, 2018 at Hospice & Community Care, Mt. Joy. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty June (O’Neil) Martz, to whom he was married for 75 years. A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 16 at 1:30 pm at the Autumn House, 2618 E. Market St, York, PA, with Pastor Debbie Heisley-Cato officiating. Inurnment will be held on Monday, December 17 at 10:30 am at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. Marlin’s family has entrusted his care to Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York, PA. Born on August 26, 1920 in Harrisburg, PA, Marlin was the son of the late William Albert Martz and Harriet Clare (Wayne) Martz. He graduated from William Penn High School in 1939. Marlin is a WWII Navy Veteran and served his country from 1943 through 1946. He worked for 40 years for the Pennsylvania Railroad, retiring in 1980. Marlin spent his retirement years along with his wife, Betty, living in Edgewater Florida for over thirty years. The two shared a passion for hosting and entertaining family and friends. Marlin loved traveling with his family, having visited all 50 states. He also enjoyed flea markets, reading, socializing with friends, eating good food and collecting model trains. After returning to the Harrisburg area, Marlin resided with his wife at Autumn House East in York, PA. Most of all, he treasured his time with family and friends, especially during holiday gatherings. Marlin will be remembered for his empathy, hospitality, generosity, and deep appreciation for his family. Marlin is survived by three children: daughter, Dawn Coble of Hershey; son, Marlin W. Martz, Jr. (Butch) and wife Kathy of Harrisburg; and daughter, April Peffer and husband David of Etters; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Geraldine Elaine (Martz) Tarbox and a brother William Albert Martz. Memorial contributions may be made to the Autumn House, 2618 E. Market St., York, PA or Hospice & Community Care, 4075 Old Harrisburg Pike, Mt. Joy, PA 17552.
