DOVER – Marlin L. Erney, 81, went to be with his Saviour on March 6, 2014. He was the husband and best friend for 59 years of Rita A. (Sheffer) Erney. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with Rev. Roland Garvin officiating. A viewing will be held from 9-10:00 AM Tuesday at the Funeral Chapel with Marine Corps Honors provided by the First Capital Detachment 521Marine Corps League. Burial will be in Suburban Memorial Gardens with full military honors presented by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born March 21, 1932 in York a son of the late John M. and Elsie M. (Shue) Erney, he was a Korean War veteran with the Marine Corps stationed in the Mediterranean and Korea as a Tank Commander. He returned home in August of 1954 where he began working for York Railroad. Marlin then worked 40 years at Standard Register Corp. as a printer. He also was a school bus driver for Northeastern School District. He was a life member of West York VFW and member of Marine Corps League, First Capital Detachment 521 and Calvary United Methodist Church. While working at Standard Register he served as Union President for many years. In addition to his wife, Mr. Erney is survived by a son, Collin M. Erney and companion, Lisa D. Lucas of West York; a daughter, Kelly Jean and husband Col. James Conaway of Prattville, AL; four grandchildren, Zachary J. and wife Erica Conaway, Bryn-Marc A. and wife Allison Conaway, Kathryn D. Erney, and Tyson G. Erney; two great grandchildren, Meredith and Miles Conaway; three brothers, John Erney of Columbia, Donald Erney of Bradenton, FL, and Robert Erney of Tiffin, OH; and one sister, Lois Naylor of Dover. He was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Brown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Marine Corps League, First Capital Detachment, P.O. Box 7313, York, PA 17404 or to West York VFW, 1800 Andrews Street, York, PA 17404.
