WEST BURLINGTON- Mark T. Carter, Sr., beloved husband, father, and friend to all came to rest on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family. Mark was active all his life, never forgetting to teach everyone about all the beauty in life. Always available to have a laugh, his good sense of humor and quick wit will always be remembered. Mark was born in Montrose on May 28, 1923, son of the late Jay and Angie (Clapper) Carter and was a life long resident of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Mark was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. In his early years he worked at Bendix, the liquor Control Board, later he worked with the Department of Properties and Supplies for over 35 years, and was building inspector for Northeast Bradford High School. He was past president of Laceyville Business Association and past commander of the American Legion. He built many homes in Northeast Pennsylvania along with many businesses but his true passion in life was farming with his son Mark. Mark's wife Frances has been at his side for more than 45 years. He is survived by his wife and children Jay (Sheila), Jeff (Carol), Dennis (Mary Beth), Mary Lee, Joel (Emily), Teresa (John), Patricia and Mark Jr. (Mayme), 27 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren, sister, Luna Maurer, Freda Harmon, sister-in-law Doris Carter, brother George, and many nieces and nephews. Mark was predeceased by his parents, brothers Clawson, Harry, and Boyce, sister Grace Rea and husband Phil, Fran Johnson, Shirley Rea, and Lee Ann Carter. Family and friends are invited to call from 1 to 3 PM on Monday, October 13, 2008 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. Immediately following at 3 PM funeral service to honor Mark's life will be held at the funeral home with Rev. Kirby Herman officiating. Interment will follow the service in Hickok Cemetery with military rites given by the Troy Veterans Honor Guard. . The family suggests donations in Mark's memory be directed to Guthrie Hospice, RR 1 Box 154 Towanda, PA 18848. Mark was a wonderful husband, father, and friend. An honorable gentleman who will be missed by all.
