Marjorie "Elaine" (Arnold) Darr

YORK-Marjorie “Elaine” Darr, age 97, formerly of Jacobus, went to be with her Lord and her beloved husband, Rodger E. Darr, on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Country Meadows- Leader Heights. Elaine was born in Violet Hill on February 18, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Morgan and Anna (Hershner) Arnold. She worked at Black’s Hosiery in York, at Dentsply, and as a teacher’s aide in the Dallastown Area School District. Rodger and Elaine celebrated 62 years of marriage in 2009 prior to his passing. Elaine is survived by a son, Rev. Thomas Darr and his wife, Elizabeth and a daughter, Patricia Hullmann and her husband Terry; four grandchildren, Lauren Williams, Luke Darr and his wife, Sarah, Kyle Hullmann, and Benjamin Hullmann; six great grandchildren, Elijah, Aiden, Mahalia, and Maelyn Williams and Samuel and Jillian Grace Darr. One grandchild, Andrew Darr, predeceased Elaine. Elaine was, also, preceded in death by her two sisters, June Henschke and Nancy Yoder and a brother, Morgan Arnold. Elaine loved and took great pride in her family. Elaine was blessed with a beautiful soprano voice which she shared by singing at many weddings in her younger days along with being a member of the York Chorus. She was a member of church choirs for over 50 years. She was an active member of Salem United Church of Christ in Jacobus having taught Sunday School there for over 35 years. Rodger and Elaine were part of the committee that created the beautiful stained glass windows at Salem. Elaine was very proud that she was getting ready to read her Bible from cover to cover for the fourth time. Elaine was a volunteer aide at Jacobus Community Nursery School for 16 years. She was loved and was, affectionately, known as “Grandma Darr” by many children. Always enjoying giving to others, she provided many newborns with baby blankets over the years with her creatively designed and hand crocheted blankets. Elaine called the Outer Banks “heaven on earth “as she treasured the many family vacations through up to age, 96. While living at Country Meadows for the last four years, Elaine became very involved in the Country Meadows community. She enjoyed being a member of the choir, playing “Big Bucks” bingo on Monday evenings and creating beautiful paintings in her art classes. She, often, referred to Country Meadows as a “house of angels.” A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 10:45am on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Salem United Church of Christ, 24 Franklin St., Jacobus with the Reverend Kevin L. Becker officiating. A visitation with the family will be held from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45am. A private burial will be at Salem Union Cemetery in Jacobus. Life Tribunes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Salem United Church of Christ, 24 Franklin Street, Jacobus, PA 17407. Condolences may be shared at HeffnerCare.com. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Country Meadows-Leader Heights and Grane Hospice for the kind and compassionate care they gave to Elaine throughout her illness. Although the loss of our mother will create a tremendous void in our lives, her happy outlook on life and her ability to seek goodness in all will remain forever in our hearts.
