Marion L. (Hess) Smith

POTTSVILLE - Marion L. Smith, 93, of Schuylkill Haven, died Tuesday at the Schuylkill Center, Pottsville. Born in Pottsville on Jan. 3, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mae Edmonds Hess. She was married to William J. Smith, who died November 1, 1978. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Schuylkill Haven. She enjoyed cats. Marion was a big Penn State fan; she even followed their high school recruiting. Marion was a Phillies fan and she also loved NASCAR driver Rusty Wallace. Surviving Marion are: a son, William J. and his wife Stephanie, of Annandale, VA; two grandchildren, Jeannine Malinowski and Heather Barnhill; three great grandchildren, Ashley and Austin Barnhill and Jacob Malinowski; a niece Shelly Derreberry and a nephew Jim Hess. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by: three brothers, Paul, Jim and Harold "Hap" Hess. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 1:30 PM from the Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., 6th & W. Market St., Pottsville. The Rev. Brian Reading will officiate. Family and friends can call from 5-7 Friday afternoon and Saturday from noon until time of service. Interment will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
