Marilee (Henkel) Bell

YORK – Marilee H. Bell died peacefully at York Hospital on December 22, 2015 at the age of 95. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pastor W. Leigh Bell to whom she was married 58 years, her son, Brigadier General Steven L. Bell, and her parents, Holt A. Henkel and Gladys Phillips Henkel. Born and raised in Newport News, VA; Marilee graduated from James Madison University and taught at the Lutheran School, Konnarock, VA. Marilee is survived by her caring family; daughter, Elise Lindenmuth and son in law Dr. Frank Lindenmuth. Also four grandchildren and their families, Steffanie Archbald, husband Charles Archbald, Chase, Ryan, Kate; Josh Lindenmuth, and wife Dr. Angela, Justin, Carter; Jacob Lindenmuth and wife Erin, Julia Fay; Suzanne Penny, and husband CJ, Morgan. In York, Marilee served on the York Day Care Board, and was a member of Shiloh Garden Club. She taught Sunday School for over 25 years and was active on several committees in her Church as well as Program Director of the Half Century Fellowship and Chair of the Food Services Committee. Marilee spent much of her life trying to help others. The funeral will be Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Sanctuary at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market Street, York with her pastor, The Rev. Kevin T. Shively officiating. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Rather than flowers, Marilee requested that Gifts of Remembrance be sent to The Pastor Leigh Bell Children’s Fund, c/o St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market St., York, PA 17401 or to a favorite charity. The family wishes to thank all those who visited, and sent cards, notes, and gifts to Marilee. Special thanks go to the 7th floor York Hospital medical staff that was so kind and caring.
