TROY- Marie A. (Arnold) Canedy, 96, of Troy, PA, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, March 16, 2010. She was the wife of the late Samuel M. Canedy who passed away on September 2, 1960. The couple married November 10, 1942 and had 17 happy years together. Family and friends are welcome to gather from 10:00-10:45 AM on Monday, March 22, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church of Troy, 121 West Main Street, Troy, PA. The Eastern Star service to honor Marie will be held at 10:45 on Monday, March 22nd at the church with the funeral service to follow. Her pastor, William Bardo, will officiate the funeral service. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery at the convenience of Marie's family. The Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA, has been entrusted with the arrangements. Marie was born on September 28, 1913, in Floodwood, MN, daughter of the late Franklin A. and Carolyn (Hadden) Arnold. She was a 1931 graduate of Bedford High School, Bedford, PA, and was a 1935 graduate of the former Indiana State Teachers College, now Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Soon after graduation she moved to Troy, PA and became the Business Education teacher for Troy High School. She served the school district for 42 years and retired on June 13, 1978. Marie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Troy, where she was the treasurer for many years. She also belonged to several groups and organizations in the Troy area, serving on several committees and holding leadership positions in all the organizations. Marie is survived by her brother Elwood J. Arnold of Austin TX, her niece Nancy Arnold, also niece through marriage Nancy Arnold who is the widow of Marie's nephew Franklin Arnold, her nephew James Arnold, all of Texas, and her local Troy, PA "family" of caring friends, neighbors and past students. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Sam, her sisters: Annetta Vandergrift, Carolyn and Sylva Arnold, her nephew Franklin Arnold, and her sister-in-law Ruby D. Arnold. Memorial contributions may be made in Marie's memory to the First Presbyterian Church of Troy, 121 West Main Street, Troy, PA 16947.
