RED LION- Marian Johannah (Smith) Edie, 92, formerly of Airville, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at Hospice & Community Care in Mt. Joy. She was the wife of the late Sterling F. Edie who passed away in 1993. The couple was married on July 19, 1947. A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Guinston Presbyterian Church in the historic stone church, 14130 Guinston Forge Rd. in Airville, PA, with a visitation from 2:30-3 p.m. Her pastor, The Reverend Daniel R. Moore will be officiating at the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Edie was born in New Freedom on March 11, 1929, the daughter of the late Elias and Edna (Crue) Smith. She was a working dairy farmer’s wife along with her husband. Later in life she was a cafeteria worker for over 20 years for Red Lion School District in the Chanceford Elementary School in Brogue. Mrs. Edie was a member of Guinston Presbyterian Church in Airville for over 70 years, served as a Sunday school teacher and trustee, as well as many other committees. She was a leader in the Farm Women Society and the Homemakers Association. Mrs. Edie leaves two children, Harry Edie and his wife Nancy of Loganton, PA and Shirley Axe and her husband Michael of Red Lion; five grandchildren, Christopher Edie of Lititz, Matthew Darby and his wife Kristy of Washington, DC, Jonathan Darby and his wife Erin of Hellam, Timothy Pomraning and his wife Renee of Airville, and Megan Axe of Red Lion. Also surviving are three great grandchildren, Connor Edie, Elliott Darby, and Abram Darby; a step great grandchild, Ian Livesly and his wife Mimi; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four siblings, Ida Boyle, Herbert Smith, Grace Heyn, and Warren Smith. The family would like to express their appreciation to her caregivers, Joan Clark, Adam Forry, and Donalene Gohn and to Hospice and Community Care for their excellent care.
