SAYRE, PA- Margareta E. (Gates) Butcher, 82, of Wellsboro, PA passed away on July 30, 2010. She was born on April 16, 1928 on the family farm in Springfield, PA, daughter of the late Harry Delace and Bertha Gertrude (Horning) Gates. She was the wife of the late Harold T. Butcher who passed away on January 19, 2010. The couple had 64 happy years together. Margareta was devoted to her family. She enjoyed cooking and sewing for them. She was right by Harold's side and was his secretary in his many business endeavors. She was artistic by nature; she enjoyed writing poetry, played the guitar and harmonica by ear, and belonged to one of the local bands. Margareta is survived her children: Bonnie (Gary) Pierce, Johnny (Barbara) Butcher, Susan (David) Pazzaglia, Brenda (Richard) Powlison, and Matthew "Mike" Butcher, her grandchildren: Theron Pierce, Lee Pierce, Nathan Pierce, John Thomas Butcher, Lynne Heckrotte, Hannah Butcher, Elizabeth Butcher, Brandi Butcher, Shawn and Laura Clarson, Kelly Corrigan, Alexandra Kent, Kierston Buchman, David Pazzaglia, Joshua Powlison, Vicky Sample, and Sarah Brown, her great grandchildren: Nicole, Cameron, Tristen, Colton, Nevan, Aidan and Aidea Pierce, Jackson and Jamison Hechrotte, Bryce Kent, Isabella Pazzaglia, Abigail Sample, and Skylar Powlison, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Margareta was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold, her brothers: Dorence Delace Gates, LaVerne Edward "Bucky" Gates, Damon Richard "Pat" Gates, and James Wilmot "Bill" Gates, her sisters: Marcia Inis Fleming Jenkins, Agnes Beatrice Packard Butcher, Doris Alvina McClure, and June Annett Gardner. Family and friends are welcome to call from 3:00-4:00 PM on Friday, August 6, 2010 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. The celebration of Margareta's life will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Myra Goss officiating and her son in law Richard Powlison assisting. Burial will be at the convenience of Margareta's family in the Daggett Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Margareta's memory to the Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
