Margaret W. (Weber) Mathis

York—Margaret W. (Weber) Mathis, 89, died Monday, October 20, 2014 at Hospice & Community Care in Mt. Joy. She was the wife of the late Joseph A. Mathis to whom she was married for 43 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be 3 PM, Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York with the Rev. Dr. Eddie D.D. Miller officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Born October 31, 1924 in Lancaster, she was a daughter of the late Dr. H. Stanley and Dora E. (Campbell) Weber. She was employed as a case worker with the Department of Public Welfare for 19 years until her retirement in 1987. In addition to being active in several organizations throughout the years, she also volunteered at the York Area Agency on Aging and York Health South. She was a master at Bridge, wickedly funny and never met a stranger. Mrs. Mathis is survived by three children, Joseph B. Mathis and his wife, Jane of Winchester, VA, Ann M. Spangler of Harrisburg and William S. Mathis of York; seven grandchildren, Jill Pangle and her husband, J.W. of Winchester, VA, Julie Mathis and her wife, Amy Wessels of Austin, TX, Laura Dailey and her husband, Larry of Overland Park, KS, Scott Mathis and his wife, Amy of Martinsburg, W.VA, Amanda Spangler of New York City, David Mathis of Saranac Lake, NY and Jacob Mathis of West Melbourne, FL; seven great grandchildren and 3 nieces and 1 nephew.
