TROY- Margaret “Marge” E. Leitner, 100, of Chestnut Street in Troy, PA passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at the Bradford County Manor. Margaret Cornielson Erd Leitner was born on September 3, 1912 in Lexington, KY, a daughter of the late Charles and Mattie (Gilchrist) Erd. On October 27, 1944 she married Carl J. Leitner, who survives. Marge attended the Lexington, KY public schools, after which she began her career in booking and office work in Cincinnati, Ohio. She moved with her family from Myerstown, PA to Troy in 1959. In Troy, Marge worked as the bookkeeper for Ribstone Silos until her retirement in 1979. She enjoyed playing bridge, rooting for the Cincinnati Reds, listening to the music of Tony Bennett, and watching classic movies. After retiring, she traveled around the country with Carl and volunteered at the Troy Public Library. Her friends and family celebrated her 100th birthday with a party on September 3, 2012. Surviving Marge, in addition to her husband, is a son, James M. Leitner and his wife Claudia of Lewisburg, PA; nephew James Murphy and his wife Johnnie of Aurora, CO; her special grandniece Michaela Hume and her husband Donald and their family of Boulder, CO; many more extended family members; and her good friends in Troy. She was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law Georgia and Albert Murphy. Family and friends are welcome to call from 10:30-11:00 AM on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 1093 West Main Street Troy, PA. The Celebration of Marge’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 24th at the funeral home with her pastor, Bill Bardo, officiating. The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made in Marge’s memory to the Allen F. Pierce Free Library 34 Fenner Ave. Troy, PA 16947.
