Margaret E. (March) Walker

Margaret Ellen (March) Walker, 89, passed unexpectedly at home on Monday, October 17, 2016. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, the late Ivan F. Walker, Jr., with whom she shared over 62 years of marriage before his death on January 5, 2010. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 21, 2016 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York, with her pastor, the Reverend Kevin T. Shively officiating. A visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Born on January 4, 1927 in Warrington Township, she was a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Fannie Mae (Naylor) March. Margaret’s father died when she was a little more than a year old and her mother was left to raise Margaret and her three siblings. They didn’t have much, but she never complained about her childhood. They grew up to be strong, hard-working individuals. Margaret was a 1944 graduate of William Penn High School. She worked at many jobs, retiring from ACCO Chain and Cable. Her favorite pastime was to watch golf and tennis on television. She had her favorite players and could tell you everything about the sport, although she never played either. Margaret was also a great cook and baker. The role that brought her most joy was taking care of her home and family. Mrs. Walker was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Mrs. Walker is survived by one daughter, Patricia Beaverson (Jeff) of Glen Rock; one son, Ivan J. Walker (Connie) of York; three grandsons, Brian J. Emig, Chad Walker and Sean Walker; one great granddaughter, Elizaveta Emig; loving nieces, Sandy Flohr and Bonnie Koontz; numerous nieces and nephews; and her two kitties she loved and doted on, Sweetie and Ivy. She was preceded in death by her brother, Grover March; and two sisters, Mary Fetrow and Elsie Landis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail, York, PA 17406 or Animal Rescue, Inc., 2 Heritage Farm Dr, New Freedom, PA 17349.
