Dallastown—Marcus H. Lanius, 85, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Betty Jane (Keesey) Lanius. A Celebration of Life Service will be private at the convenience of the family. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Born January 11, 1928 in Spring Grove, he was a son of the late Marcus C. and Mary I. (Tome) Lanius. He was employed with Dallastown Borough for 10 years as borough manager until his retirement in 1996. Previously he worked as a machinist with AMF for 15 years and later with Caterpillar for 5 years. A United States Marine Corp veteran of both World War II and the Korea War, he served with the 3rd Marine Air Wing in Guam and Tianjin, China during World War II and later served as a drill instructor at Camp Lejeune during the Korean War. He was a member of the Starview Gun Club and Loyal Order of Moose. He was also very proud of his blind grandfather, Henry Lanius, who became a United States Senator serving Pennsylvania for two decades and who was the driving force behind legislation for the blind. Mr. Lanius is survived by one daughter, Teresa J. (Lanius) Hurley of Waldorff, MD; three sons, Kim M. Lanius and wife, Angela of Felton, Larry C. Lanius of Red Lion and Mark A. Lanius and wife, Annette of Red Lion; 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, three sisters, Kathleen Schneider of York, and Jeanne Lillard and Linda Turpin both of Newberry, SC and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Kirk H. Lanius. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to York Cancer Center, Cancer Patient Help Fund, Suite 194, 25 Monument Rd, York, Pa 17403.
