Marcella D. Speth

LOCK HAVEN - Marcella “Marcie” Speth, 82, went with the angels on a beam of light on Saturday, Aug 18th. She is remembered as an imaginative soul who raised 4 daughters, inspiring in them creativity, a sense of magic, and an affinity for arts, music, and theater. She was an artist, poet, and painter. She is best known for the following poem, Art Is In Everything: Art is in everything. You just have to find it. When I stare at a lighted candle, The candle looks to me just like a shining star. When I look at the sky and look at the clouds, I see shapes, contrasts between light and dark. The Shapes may have heads of animals or people. I start to make up stories about them. My imagination lets me see things That a friend, standing near, claims not to see it all. When I see rain, I notice the effect the wet has on things. Rain makes car roofs look all shiny and new. Dried leaves swirl and whirl in counter clockwise motion. Driving in a downpour of rain, With people and cars splashing about, Reminds me of a child playing happily in the bathtub. All her toy boats, cars, trucks, people, ducks, and such, All riding the waves in the water. The child is laughing, making up stories, singing, And having the time of her life. Capture this on a paper canvas And you have a masterpiece. Art can be in everything. Close your eyes. Be at peace. Open your heart. Open your mind. Then open your eyes again and they will see. Marcie was a lively dancer, who was always ready to “get up and boogie,” as soon as she heard music. She was an avid theater-goer and supporter. She is survived by daughters Pat (Bill) Corey, Judy (Pete) MacLaren, and Jean Von Trende; son-in-law Curt; her grandchildren Jasmine and Iris Corey, and her brother Paul (Barbara) Devaney. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Susan “Sue” Keays, Al Speth, Michael Von Trende, Tyrone, and Fluffy. She lived by her motto “Keep Movin’ and Groovin’.” Donations in memory of Marcie Speth can be made to The Next Stage Theater Company, The State Theater and the Women’s Resource Center in State College. Helt Funeral Chapel, Mill Hall.
