Madhuvantibai Parmar

YORK - Madhuvantibai Parmar, 85, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023.

Mrs. Parmar was born in Diu, India on October 12, 1937. She is the daughter of the late Hirachand and Ratan Jethwa. As one of nine siblings, Mrs. Parmar grew up in a big happy family. In her late teens, she married the love of her life, Govind Parmar. Sadly, Mr. Parmar passed away shortly after the birth of their only child, a daughter, Rashmi.

In a time when married women were homemakers and widows were often outcasts, Mrs. Parmar broke barriers to provide for her young child. She attended college and became an elementary school teacher. During her tenure, Mrs. Parmar taught hundreds of young minds. She retired as the principal of the school - an impressive achievement.

In 1977, to provide her daughter with a better life, Mrs. Parmar came to the United States to her brother, the late Vasant Jethwa’s home, to drop off her daughter. In America, Rashmi finished high school, attended college, was married, and had two daughters. Mrs. Parmar frequently flew to the U.S. to visit her family until she moved to America in 2001.

She spent the last 20+ years with the people she loved most: her daughter, granddaughters, and great-granddaughters. She expressed her love through homecooked meals, sweet kisses on the cheek, and endless smiles.

Mrs. Parmar is survived by her daughter, Rashmi Dave of York; two granddaughters, Raina Lindstrom, and Urja Dave; two great-granddaughters, Naya and Priya Lindstrom; a brother, Vyomesh Jethwa of York; and two sisters, Damyanti Dabhi of York and Rajani Parmar of Baltimore.

The viewing and cremation service will begin at 4:00 PM Tuesday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York.
