M. Wayne Conrad

DEWART - M. Wayne Conrad, 78, ended a courageous 5 year battle with cancer and entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 with his family at his side. He was born in Allenwood on September 24, 1934 and was the son of the late William L. and Grace I. (Else) Conrad. On February 24, 1956, he married the late Helen E. (Persun) of Montgomery and celebrated 46 years of marriage before her death on November 11, 2003. Mr. Conrad was in the US Army, called to active duty in 1959 and took basic training at CO, C-9th, BN 3rd Plt, Fort Jackson, SC. After completing 12 weeks of training designed to challenge Army recruits, both physically and mentally, he was assigned to Battery A 3rd BN 6th Artillery at Fort Sill, OK where he received an honorable discharge on May of 1961. Wayne attended Watsontown High School and was a life member of Clyde F. Mowrer American Legion, Post #0323 Watsontown. He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, woodworking and spending time with his family. He had worked for 38 ½ years at E Keeler Co. in Williamsport, manufacturer of boiler and stacks, working in the shipping and receiving department. Wayne is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law; Linda K. and Dean Tressler of Sunbury, Lois M. and Darryl Hoffman of Milton, Laura F. and Steve Clemens of Watsontown and Lisa G. and Dan Alexander of Watsontown, 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and one sister; Mae Keller of Lititz. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers; Robert in 1934, William in 1949, Ralph in 1980 and Russel in 2001 and one sister; Dorothy in 1937. There will be a gathering of family and friends 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2013 at The Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front St., Milton where the funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. The Reverend A.J. Shearer from Follmer Lutheran Church will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Allenwood Cemetery with military honors.
