Luretta S. (Grove) Chronister

RED LION- Luretta S. (Grove) Chronister, 78, died peacefully Thursday, June 17, 2010 at her residence. She was the loving wife of the late Robert L. Chronister, who passed away on August 21, 2007. The couple had been married for 54 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 21, 2010 at Red Lion Zion United Methodist Church, 1155 Felton Rd., Red Lion, with her pastor, the Reverend James C. House officiating. Visitations will be from 5-6:30 on Sunday, June 20, 2010 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner, 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion and from 10-11 a.m. on Monday at the church. Burial will be held in Red Lion Zion U.M. Church Cemetery following the service. Mrs. Chronister was born on February 28, 1932 in Red Lion, a daughter of the late Fred C. and Bertha (Flinchbaugh) Grove. Luretta worked as a Registered Nurse for Dr. Edward Holland's Family Practice for 40 years until her retirement in 1998. Mrs. Chronister was a member of Red Lion Zion U.M. Church for over 63 years, where she served on various committee boards, directed the nursery program, and volunteered at the Vacation Bible School. Mrs. Chronister was a member of the former Red Lion Country Club. She was also a volunteer at the Red Lion Historical Society, Mobil Foods, and Red Lion AARP Tutoring Program. She especially enjoyed her time with the Friday Night Dinner Club. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a devoted mother and Nana. Mrs. Chronister is survived by two sons, Dr. Steven B. Chronister and his wife, Sindi of Red Lion and Todd R. Chronister and his wife, Mary Ann of York; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Heather, Eric, Carly and Alec; a brother in law, Kenneth E. Poet; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a twin sister, Lucille S. Poet. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Red Lion Zion U.M. Church, 1155 Felton Rd., Red Lion, PA 17356 or Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202. Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Others stay awhile, make footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same. The family would like to thank all the medical staff that has helped Luretta over the years, especially the cancer care staff at Apple Hill Medical Center.
