YORK – Lucille M. (Kindig) Rutledge, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, died on September 8, 2012 at her home. She was the wife of the late George F. Rutledge, who died on June 13, 2001. They were married for 58 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 14, 2012 at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, 1054 Ridgewood Rd., York with her pastor, The Rev. Cathy H. Sherry officiating. A viewing will be held from 6:30 – 8:30 PM Thursday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Born in York on November 4, 1925 she was the daughter of the late G. Albert and Dora I. (Hively) Kindig. Two brothers, Robert and Kenneth Kindig preceded her in death. Lucille was a graduate of William Penn High School. She and her husband George were married on April 30, 1943. During the time that George was serving in the US Navy in WWII, Lucille worked at the Cut Rate Shoe Store and A&P grocery. Later in life she was as a clerk at Kline’s Food Market. For the majority of her adult life however, Lucille was a loving wife, devoted mother, homemaker, and caregiver. Lucille’s life revolved around those she loved. Her priority was her family, but she was a loyal friend with friendships that endured the span of her life. She had the kindest of hearts and always put others before herself. Lucille and her husband George enjoyed traveling, visiting 18 European countries, sites in the Caribbean, and many destinations throughout the United States and Canada. She also enjoyed bus trips with friends to tearooms and local points of interest. In her retirement, Lucille took up golf and played regularly into her early 80’s in ladies events at Briarwood Golf Course. She belonged to the York Mall Walkers and Pleasureville Red Hat Society. Lucille was a charter member of Mt. Zion UCC. Lucille is survived by two daughters, Dawn E. Burgoon and husband John of Greencastle, PA and Pamela A. Rutledge and her companion Ricardo Soto of York; and a granddaughter, Nicole E. Matero and husband Anthony of Dallastown. The joys of her life were her great granddaughters, Katie R. and Allison M.
