Louise A. Druffner

DALLAS-Louise A. Druffner, 85, formerly of Avoca, passed away Thursday at the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas. She was also a former resident of Wethersfield, CT. Born in Avoca on July 5, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Andrew J. and Mary (Harte) Druffner. She was a graduate of Avoca High School and Marywood College. She later graduated from the University of Hartford with her master's degree in education. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Avoca. She was employed by the American Red Cross in Pennsylvania and Connecticut. She also was a teacher in Beltsville, MD and a long time teacher at Bulkeley High School in the Hartford School District. She was a devoted sister, sister in law and was a loving aunt. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret Vahey, Christine I. Druffner and Mary E. Murphy. Surviving are her brother-in-law, Eugene Vahey, Sun City Center, FL; nephews Attorney Joseph A. Murphy, Dunmore; John Murphy, Pittston; Paul Murphy, Groton, CT; Gene Vahey,Jr., Old Orchard Beach, ME: Richard Vahey, Mt. Top; Brian Vahey, San Francisco, CA; Kevin Vahey, Surfside Beach, SC; nieces Rosemary Murphy Warneke, Laurel, MD; Anne Murphy Sharkey, Moosic; Joan Murphy Fasullo, Wilmington, DE; several great nieces and nephews. Louise's family would like to thank the 2nd Floor Staff at the Meadows Nursing Center and the Meadows Assisted Living Facility for the loving care she received. The funeral will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 728 Main Street, Avoca, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Avoca, with the Reverend Joseph Adonizio officiating. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Friends may call Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Druffner Scholarship Fund at Marywood University, 2300 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA 18509.
