Louis G. Heffner

Louis G. Heffner, 66, of Lake Wynonah, died Saturday morning at his home. Born in Fountain Springs on July 25, 1944, he was a son of the late Louis M. and Bertha Marquardt Heffner. In 1962 Louis graduated from Pottsville High School. In 1964 he attended the Ford School of Business in Pottsville and in 1966 he attended the Trenton State College. On April 23, 1966 he married the former Constance Anne Kelly, who survives. Before entering the United States Air Force, Louis was employed by the Library of Congress in Washington DC. Chief Master Sergeant Heffner's first duty assignment was the 7th Air Force (DOE), Tan Son Nhut Air Base, Vietnam. His other assignments during his 27 years with the Air Force included the Presidential Squadron, Defense Intelligence Agency, US Embassy-Tel Aviv, US Armed Forces-Europe, and various other duty stations in the United States. During CMS Heffner's career with the Air Force he was a Bronze Star recipient, a Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm recipient, and numerous other meritorious and service medals. After retiring from the Air Force, Louis worked for 15 years for Jetsen Direct Mail. Louis truly enjoyed spending time with his family, bowling with friends and traveling with his wife. His memory will live on through all those that were touched by his life. Surviving Louis in addition to his wife, Connie, of 44 years are: a son Louis G. Heffner, Jr., and his wife Gretchen, Aiken, S.C.; two daughters, Kelly L. and her husband John Thompson, Orwigsburg, and Elizabeth A. Ketz, Shillington; six grandchildren, Ian Thompson, Eric Thompson, Leo Thompson, Zoe Thompson, Cassidy Ketz and John Ketz; a brother, William Heffner and his wife Pam, Pottsville; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Louis was preceded in death by a son John J. Heffner. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning at 10 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 3rd & Arch St., Pottsville, with the Reverend Darcy Reis officiating. Family and friends may call from the Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., 6th & W. Market St., Pottsville on Tuesday from 6-8 PM and Wednesday morning from 8:45-9:45 at the church. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 16 N. 4th St., Pottsville, PA 17901.
