York-- Louis F. Fischer, 77, peacefully passed away, Thursday, January 11, 2007 at York Hospital, after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness, at his side was his wife of 38 years, Patricia (Henderson) Fischer. A celebration of life service and burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Fischer was born April 28, 1929 in Pittsburgh, son of the late Louis F. and Helen (Sacher) Fischer. He was employed with Teledyne-McKay as a Traffic Manager for 26 years, until his retirement in 1994. Previously he worked at Colonial Supply in Pittsburgh. Mr. Fischer was a dedicated Pittsburgh Steeler van, an avid reader and student of U.S. history; he was also a book collector specializing in the Civil War. He was a Licensed Battlefield Guide at Gettysburg National Military Park for 15 years and a Guide Emeritus the last two years. He was a United States Army Veteran with the 2d Army Command during the Korean Conflict, and a member of the Corinthian Lodge No. 573 of Free and Accepted Masons, 32nd Degree, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry - Gourgas Lodge of Perfection, Valley of Pittsburgh and the American Legion. He volunteered for more than 15 years with York-Adams Branch of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Previously he was a member of mentionable organizations including, Norwich- New York Civil War Round Table and Baltimore Civil War Round Table. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sister- in- law, Martha Henderson, nieces: Sally Henderson and Jill Bond and a great niece, Erin Bond and two great nephews, Brian and Kevin Bond, all of Cocoa, FL. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth (Fischer) Rawski.
