Lottie M. Johnson

YORK - Mother Lottie Mae Johnson, a beloved matriarch, faithful servant of God, and cherished community member, was born on March 9, 1925, in Savannah, Georgia. She dedicated her life to serving the Lord and touching countless lives with her inspiring voice and unwavering faith.

A Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 11, 2025 at New Covenant Community Church, 116 S. West St., York, PA 17401 with Bishop Anthony Sease officiating the service. There will be a viewing at the church from 9:00-10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.

On August 21, 1946, she united in holy matrimony with Minister Irving Earl Johnson. Their 62-year union was blessed with five children who continue to carry out their legacy of faith and service.

Mother Johnson's professional life included a 20-year career at GTE Sylvania, where she worked as a quality inspector until her retirement. However, her true calling was in ministry and service to others. During her years in Georgia, she served as the lead singer for Solomon Temple C.O.G.I.C.'s radio broadcast ministry. After relocating to Pennsylvania, she became a soloist at Little Zion C.O.G.I.C. in York under the late Pastor Ceaser Bennett. She later joined New Holy Chapel C.O.G.I.C. under the late Pastor James L. Wilson, where she served faithfully as an anointed testimony service song leader, board member, and participant in the Noonday Prayer ministry.

Known affectionately as "Mom," "Lott," "Mom-Mom," and "Aunt Lottie," she lived by her encouraging motto, "I'm not giving up no ground." Her willingness to serve in any capacity—whether at home, at church, or in the community—made her a pillar of strength and inspiration to all who knew her. She found joy in gardening, particularly tending to her renowned rose bushes and flowers. She loved reading, completing 1,000-piece puzzles, storytelling, cooking, and cherishing time with family and friends. On June 3, 2017, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award as the oldest serving member of New Covenant Community Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Irving E. Johnson; her parents, Fred Woodard and Lorraine Woodard Dempsey; and her siblings: Jerry Holmes, Benjamin H. Dempsey, Dorothy W. Lee, James E. Dempsey, Ned Woodard, George W. Dempsey, Minnie W. Smith, Earthalean D. Riley, Fred Woodard, Davida Henderson, Joseph Woodard, Willie Mae Fields, Betty W. Heath, Lilly Fields, Bobby Woodard, Betty Wright, and Earnest Woodard.

Left to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy are her children: Linda Giddins, Marsha Johnson, Tonda Johnson, Earl Johnson (Kim), and Deirdre Johnson; her siblings: Willburn Dempsey (Amelia) and David Dempsey; her grandchildren: Damon Giddins, India Jones, Charis Peebles (Anthony), Bobby Johnson, Brandi Baker, Ashley Giddins, Dwayne Johnson, and Breland Johnson; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
