AIRVILLE – Lorraine (Losowski) Dougherty, Passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at her home. She was the loving wife of the late Donald F. Dougherty.
Lorraine was born October 21, 1929 in Trenton NJ. Her parents were Mary (Ahlbach) and Leon Losowski. She was one of 12 siblings. She worked for the federal government in a secretarial position and attended Rider College. She married Donald F. Dougherty in 1959. They moved to Airville, PA where she worked as a homemaker and raised her 3 children. As she entered her 40s, she decided to return to college because she felt like she had holes in her head. She graduated from York College, PA in 1978 with a BA in English.
She went to work for the Dallastown PO and was a member of the National Association Of Letter Carriers (NALC). She retired with 20 years of federal government service.
After retirement she traveled with her sister Dorothy to many fascinating points of interest, pursued her interest in the writings of H.L. Mencken by joining the H.L. Mencken fan club based in Baltimore, MD, and indulged her love of opera, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, reading, and gardening in her productive vegetable garden. She enjoyed conversing with all people even after she had forgotten who they were.
She is survived by her sisters; Dorothy Losowski, Rosemarie (DeeDee) Dzieminski and Marion Carhart; and her 3 children, Lorene Burns, Ellen Dougherty-Saylor, and Rebecca Dougherty; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
All services will be private at the convenience of the family. Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
