Lonnie W. Garland, Sr.

SHERMANSDALE - Lonnie W. Garland, Sr., 48, formerly of York, died Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center following a brief battle with cancer. He was the husband of Nancy J. Garland to whom he was married for 28 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 1:30 PM Monday, December 10, 2007 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion. Viewings will be held from 6-8:00 PM Sunday and 12:30-1:30 PM Monday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Born August 10, 1959 in Baltimore, a son of Darline M. [Walker] Mountz of Mt. Holly and the late Ralph E. Garland, he worked for I.A.C., formerly Lear Corp. in Carlisle. Prior to that he worked at Keystone Weaving Mill in York. Lonnie was an avid ATV rider and racer and belonged to the American Motorcyclist Assoc. He earned numerous trophies and awards while racing four-wheelers, and also enjoyed working on Chevy cars; listening to classic rock artists, and playing bingo. In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Garland is survived by a son, Lonnie W. Garland, Jr. of Shermansdale; three daughters, Amanda R. Garland of Carlisle, Tiffany N. and Lacy M. Garland both of Shermansdale; four grandchildren, Kelsey, Blake, Tiarra, and Cadence; a brother, Bobbie Garland of Newville; three sisters, Ruthie Wentz of Manchester, MD, Ruby Garland of Newville, and Rita Garland of Mt. Holly; his mother in law, Betty Mountz of Shermansdale; sister in law, Donna Mountz; three nephews, Michael, Garth, and Chip Garland; and a niece, Star Shopp. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Garland.
