Lola P. Pappas of Center Street, Milton died Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at her residence. Born in Kefalinia, Greece November 28,1910. The fifth of seven children born to the Most Rev. Father Vasilios Papadopoulos and Maria {Zisimatos}. Rev Papadopoulos started several Greek Orthodox churches in New York City. Lola (Paraskevi) arrived in New York City with her brother Spiro and sister Froso in 1923. Her siblings had show business involvement and she had played in stage shows and co-starred in the Greek movie "This is Life." She sang on New York radio as the" Voice of Greece" for several years. She studied opera under the voice teacher Madam Upside and was invited to join Lily Palmer's Metropolitan Opera's group to study opera in Milan. She married Peter D. Pappas (Papasperatos) on September 4,1932 and moved to Milton. Her husband and George J. Callos owned and operated the Broadway Lunch and in 1936 opened the ALCO Restaurant on Front Street until 1975. He died in 1976. Upon the death of George and Maria Callos (Mastrokalos) Lola and Peter, as Godparents to John and Anthony Callos, became their Guardians and lovingly raised the two boys. Lola was a private, religious person who taught that love and responsibility were the keys to life and that jealousy and greed were the worst traits you could have. She loved music and was an accomplished pianist and guitar player. She is survived by a son John Callos of Youngstown, OH. There are nine grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and the third great-great grandchild is expected in June. She is survived by a sister Antigone Michaels of Cliffside Park, NJ and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son Anthony Callos in 2001. The funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, April 9, 2009 at the Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front Street, Milton with her grandson Father Stephen J. Callos officiating. Friends and relatives will be received at the funeral home from 1:30 - 2:00 P.M. Memorial contributions can be made to the Milton High School Alumni Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 515, Milton, PA 17847. Interment will be at Harmony Cemetery.
