Lola (Mason) Hyde

On August 18, 2011, a reunion of the Mason family was celebrated in Heaven as Lola “Mason” Hyde, the last surviving member of that family, left this earth to join her loved ones. Lola, age 86, was the youngest child of parents, Perry and Maude (Sterner) Mason. She was born in Renovo on April 15, 1925. The Mason family has been a part of the Renovo Heritage since the late 1800’s. Pearle Mason Marshall was the first child, born in 1906 to Perry and Maude. Lola was a graduate of Renovo High School and served in the United States Army where she met her husband, Robbie Hyde Sr., in Louisiana in 1945. They were married in February of 1946. Tragically, he was killed in a flash flood in south Texas in 1954, while on a fishing trip with his father, William, his brother, Glenn, and a friend who also lost their lives. His brother, Ray, survived the accident. Surviving is her son; Robbie Hyde Jr. and his wife, Karen, whom Lola loved very much. Also by granddaughter; Mindy and her fiancée, Chris and his son; Jacob, of Montoursville. Grandson; Mike, and his wife, Eli, and great grandsons, Tate and Channing of Bristow, Va. They were always the pride of her life, and they will miss her love and concern for them. Brother-in-law Ray and his wife, Gale Hyde of Rosenberg, Texas also survive, along with numerous nieces and nephews. In her younger years, Lola taught dance lessons in Renovo for a time. She could still show a few of the steps she taught when anyone would ask. She was employed by Bobbie Brooks in Lock Haven for several years, and for a short time, she worked for the Green Thumb program at the Renovo Boro Building. She spent the last four years as a resident of the Bucktail Medical Center where she truly loved all the residents and employees . She appreciated and was truly thankful for the love and care that was given to her there. She especially enjoyed and looked forward to her Tuesday afternoon “Nickel Bingo.” Her schedule had to revolve around her time to play Bingo. Besides her parents and her husband, Lola was preceded in death by five brothers: Joe, Sterner, Fred, Jim, and Perry Mason, and six sisters; Pearle Marshall, Daisy Sutter, Roberta Smith, Anna McGregor, Shirley Maziarz, and Maudie Campbell. Two other children died in infancy. Funeral services for Lola will be held at the Maxwell Funeral Home, 205 Fifth St., Renovo at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2011 with her niece, Martha Sykes, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Private family interment will take place in North Bend Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations are requested to the Activities Fund of Bucktail Medical Center, 1000 Pine Street, Renovo, Pa. 17764. Lola thoroughly enjoyed attending the many activities while being a resident at the Center.
