Lola M. Young

Red Lion – Lola M. Young, 97, died on January 9, 2020 at Rest Haven in York where she had resided for the past few months. She had previously lived at Country Meadows of Leader Heights for more than ten years. She was born and lived in Red Lion for virtually her entire life prior to that time. She was the daughter of Stuart S. and Mary Rebecca (Bisker) Shindler. She had been married to Victor A. Young for 66 years prior to his death in 2009. She taught herself to play the piano at a young age and was an accomplished knitter and seamstress. She also enjoyed sketching. She tirelessly altered hand-me-downs for her children and fashioned slipcovers, curtains and drapes for her home. She found great contentment in ministering to the needs of her husband and children, and made countless personal sacrifices for their benefit. She also had a keen interest in politics and was a staunch defender of the rights of women and children. Services will be private with burial in Red Lion Cemetery. Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Young is survived by four children; two sons, Dr. Michael B. Young and his wife Marcia of Bloomington, IL and David C. Young and his wife Rosemarie of Medfield, MA; two daughters, Catherine D. Diehl and her husband David of Jacobus and C. Maureen Young of Red Lion; three granddaughters, Heather (Young) Hannon and husband Craig, Alison (Diehl) Renner and husband Tim, and Sarah (Diehl) Grady and husband Chris. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Isaac, Annelise, Linus and Elliott Hannon, Gideon and Ursula Renner, and Eva and Sam Grady.
