Lola A. (Koch) Manning

MILTON - Lola A. (Koch) Manning, 92, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2016 at her residence. She was born on April 10, 1924 in New Columbia and was the daughter of the late R.J. and Erma (Showers) Koch. On November 26, 1947 Lola married the late George D. Manning, Jr. and they were married for 49 years until his death on February 10, 1997. Lola was a graduate of the Milton High School Class of 1942. After school she was employed by various places in the 1940’s including Chef Boy ar dee’s of Milton where Hector Boiardi personally demonstrated to her how to “eye a potato” and the Ordinance of Watsontown where she was an expert munitions inspector during World War II. Lola was a shy hard working woman, an avid reader and dreamer who loved collecting turtles, a superb homemaker who fashioned her house into a home with a heart. Her taste in home decoration and clothing was matchless, but it is her warmth, her humor and her loving kindness we will miss the most. What a lovely person she was. She is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law; George D. Manning, III of Milton, Stanley K. and Shelley Manning of Milton, Boyd A. and Babette Manning of Rebersburg and Brad L. and Michelle Manning of Milton, two daughters and sons-in-law; Debra and Boyd Waltman of Alaska and DeErma R. and Homer McMillan of Florida, 10 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one brother; Leonard R. Koch of New Columbia and one sister-in-law; Minnie Koch of New Columbia along with numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Lola was preceded in death by one grandson; John Manning, three brothers; Owen, Boyd and Eldon Koch and two sisters; Alma Harpster and Rhoda Earhart. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Daily Item Fund for needy families at; The Needy Fund, Daily Item, P.O. Box 607, Sunbury, PA 17801. A graveside service for Lola will be held at 11:00a.m., Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the Highland Cemetery, New Columbia. Arrangements are being handled by The Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front Street, Milton.
