Lewis S. Yeager, Sr.

POTTSVILLE - Lewis S. Yeager, Sr., 83, of Pottsville, died Friday morning at the Schuylkill Medical Center, East Norwegian St., Pottsville. Born in Pottsville on November 7, 1926, he was a son of the late Frederick and May Smith Yeager. Until retiring he was employed by Capitol Trailways as a bus driver. He was Methodist by faith. Lewis served his country during World War II, serving in the Army as a P.F.C. Heavy Machine Gunner. He was discharged twice, both Honorably. He was stationed in the Philippine Islands. Lewis received citations as a 1st Gunner and for rifle marksmanship. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, a WWII Victory Ribbon, the Philippine Occupation Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal of Japan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: three brothers, Frederick, Melvin and Percy. Surviving Lewis are: five sons, Lewis Jr, of Pottsville, Gary, Sr. and his wife Jonnalene, of Shoemakersville, Earl and his wife Donna of Pine Grove, Roy and his wife Linda of Pottsville and Wayne, of Hazleton; a daughter, Joann of Pottsville; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 PM from the Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, Inc. 6th & W. Market St, Pottsville, with Reverend Brian Reading officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 1 until time of service. Interment will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park, with Military Honors.
