TROY- Lewis G. Nichols, 81, of Troy, PA, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at the Towanda Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Emily “Mi Mi” (Mitchell) Nichols who passed away on April 24, 1990. The couple married in 1965 and had 25 happy years together. Lewis was born on March 13, 1930 in East Smithfield, PA, son of the late Everett and Nellie (Lewis) Nichols. He was a graduate of East Stroudsburg University with a teaching degree and taught math and other subjects at SRU High School until his retirement in 1988. Lewis was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran, and was a member of the Troy American Legion Post #49 and V.F.W. Post #8675. He enjoyed playing golf and baseball, along with watching college basketball, the Washington Redskins, and the Boston Red Sox on television. Lewis also enjoyed the company of his Great Danes throughout the years. Lewis is survived by his daughter Valnette (Ron) Hubbard of East Smithfield, his son Ronald Nichols with companion Mary Ellen Starr of Troy, PA, his five grandchildren: Rachael Nichols, Andrew Nichols, Rodney (Jennifer) Hubbard, Ryan (Summer) Hubbard, and Justin Hubbard, his brother Harold (Betty) Nichols of California, his former wife Norma Nichols, and several nieces and nephews. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mi Mi, and his sister Mildred Blackwell. A time of visitation with the family will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 1093 West Main Street Troy, PA.
