Levere E. Horn

YORK-Levere E. Horn, 90, of Jackson Township, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2016 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Madeline M. (Swords) Horn. The couple celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary on July 5, 2016. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2016 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York, with a viewing from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Certified Celebrant Betty Frey will be officiating at the service. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Horn was born in Lower Windsor Township on March 23, 1926, the son of George W. and Anna B (Barnhart) Horn. He retired from Teledyne McKay in York and then worked as a security guard for Schaad Detective Agency. He was a life member of East Berlin VFW and a member of the NRA. He enjoyed rifle and crossbow hunting and also doing mechanical work and painting cars. He served in the 94th Infantry Division in the US Army in WWII. Mr. Horn leaves his son, Levere E. Horn, Jr. of Red Lion; four daughters, Barb Dittenhafer of Loganville; Donna Redding and her husband Harold of Spring Grove, Brenda Kilgore and her husband, Lon of York, and Linda Cassel and her husband, David of Dover; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren; and a brother, David Horn and his wife Ruth of York. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law David Dittenhafer and a granddaughter Tammy Sue Redding.
