YORK- Lester J. Miller, 78, died on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Christine A. (Haupt) Miller to whom he was married for 44 years.
A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 11 N. Richland Ave., York with Pastor Tanya Brubaker officiating and full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard at the start of the service. Viewings will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2023 at Grandview Cemetery, 801 Millcreek Rd, Johnstown with military honors and a luncheon to follow.
Born on July 3, 1945 in Johnstown, he was a son of the late Thomas William and Louise (Belle) Miller. Lester was a computer programmer for the Department of Environmental Protection and prior to was a coal miner for the former Florence Coal Mining Company.
Mr. Miller served our country for four years in the United States Marine Corps. during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. Lester loved woodworking and model trains.
Along with his wife, Christine, Lester is survived by his son, Thomas W. Miller of Boiling Springs; two daughters, Laronda Hilliard and her husband, Randall of Sumter, SC and Renee Helgeson and her husband, Gaylen of Minot, ND; six grandchildren, Dustin, Jordan, Alyssa, Leanne, Henry and Matthew; three great grandchildren, Ronin, Dawson and Riley and Alice on the way; two sisters, Nancy Vitovich and her husband, Stanley of Middlefield, OH and Linda Sevanick and her husband, Mike of Johnstown; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Herm Goehres; two sisters, Peggy Ambrose and Donna Guyan; and an infant brother, Francis.
