Lester J. Fissel, Sr.

YORK – Lester J. Fissel, Sr., 85, passed away Friday, August 31, 2012 at Manor Care – Kingston Court. He was the husband of AnnaMary A. (Smith) Fissel to whom he was married for 58 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York. A viewing will be held from 9-10:00 AM Wednesday at the Funeral Chapel. Burial will be held at 12:30 PM Wednesday at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with full military honors. Born January 18, 1927 in Hanover, a son of the late Paul C. and Mary P. (Copenhaver) Fissel, he was a 1945 graduate of Central York High School and graduated from PA Institute of Criminology in 1947. Lester had worked for the Naval Ordinance Plant for 15 years and then retired in 1993 from American Chain and Cable after 26 years of service. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church; Mt. Wolf VFW; and enjoyed bowling, having been active in many leagues through the NOP. Mr. Fissel was a US Army veteran of WWII. In addition to his wife, Mr. Fissel is survived by two sons, Michael Fissel of Orlando, FL and James Fissel of York; a sister, Mabel Fissel of York; a niece, Krista and husband Jack Warntz of West York; and two great nieces, Courtney and Alyssa Boyer. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann Fissel; two sons, Lester J. Fissel, Jr. and John Fissel; and three brothers, Ralph, Harry, Paul, and Melvin Fissel.
