YORK – Lester “Bill” W. Hagelgans, 89, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024 at Normandie Ridge. He was the loving husband of Jane (Stover) Hagelgans to whom he was married for 34 years.
Born December 27, 1934 in Lancaster, Lester was a son of the late Earl Hagelgans and Dorothy Crawford. When Lester was 17, he joined the Army. Proudly serving our country for 22 years. During his service, he fought in the Vietnam War, and received some decorations including, two time National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star, and three-time recipient of the Good Conduct Award, Army Commendation Medal (Evacuation of Hospital). Lester was also an active and dedicated member of the York County Honor Guard for 20 years, participating in 2800 services to fallen comrades through all sorts of weather conditions.
In addition to his beloved wife, Jane, Lester leaves behind his children, William "Bill” Hagelgans, Gary Hagelgans, Jeff Hagelgans, Julie Bolich. Deceased children Stevie, Terry, Larry Hagelgans, and Laura Harple; three step children, Kathy Price and her husband Timothy, and the late, Randy Stover, Joseph Stover, and Dennis Stover; eight grandchildren, Will Hagelgans, Zachery Hagelgans, Melissa Hagelgans, Tamera Hagelgans, Nicole Hagelgans, Steva Hagelgans, Rachel and Christa Harple; step grandchildren, Joseph Stover Jr., Lauren Dobson, Samantha Stover, Rebecca Kunkle, Alicia Sparks, Trevor Stover, and Tara Thomas, 12 great grandchildren; and 10 step great grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held 10:00AM on Friday, July 19, 2024 at Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. 1551 Kenneth Road, York. Prior to the service, there will be a visitation from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM. Burial will be held Monday, July 22 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
A special thank you to Terry and Kathy Peterman & Larry & Susan Peterman Bloom & Stephanie Martin Kiszonas for always being there to take care of Bill and Jane especially after entering Normandie Ridge.
