Lester A. Walker

DOVER – Lester A. Walker, 80, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Easton Nursing Home in Easton, PA. He was the husband of Nancy D. (Stanton) Walker to whom he would have been married for 60 years on May 8, 2014. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, May 9, 2014 at Pinchot Park Assembly of God, 2755 Rosstown Rd., Wellsville with Pastor Tim Imes officiating. Viewings will be held from 6-8:00 PM Thursday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York and from 12-1:00 PM Friday at the Church. Burial will be in New Fairview Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Born April 2, 1934 in Huntingdon, PA a son of the late William and Edith B. (Cramer) Walker, he was a 1952 graduate of Dover Area High School. Mr. Walker retired as the maintenance supervisor for Northeastern School District where he worked for 26 ½ years, prior to that he had worked for Goodling Electric for 11 years. Lester was a member of First Assembly of God where he had served as Sunday School Superintendant and had been a dedicated and active member of the Church softball team for 27 years. Lester’s teams were consistently on the top of the league in games won and sportsmanship. He enjoyed playing all sports, hunting, fishing, and camping. He had also raced stockcars at local speedways. In addition to his wife, Mr. Walker is survived by two granddaughters, Melinda S. and husband Ralph Kuykendall, Jr. and Carrie L. Bailey; two great granddaughters, Lacy L. and Jena S. Kuykendall; a brother, Jerry Walker of Dover; and son in law, Richard Bailey of York. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene Sue Bailey; and three brothers, James, Gene, and Kenny Walker.
