Lester A. Middleton

YORK- Lester A. Middleton, 93, died Saturday, April 5, 2008 at Pleasant Acres in York. He was the husband of the late Alverta P. (Druck) Middleton, to whom he was married to for 65 years. A service will be 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York, with a viewing from 9-10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery with full military honors by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Middleton was born in Luray, VA on September 26, 1914, a son of the late Andrew J. and Minnie E. (Lester) Middleton. He retired from the former Cole Steel Company of York, prior to that he worked for York Shipley. Mr. Middleton was a former member of St. Paul's U.M. Church in York. He was a member of Shiloh American Legion, West York V.F.W. and West Manchester Township V.F.W. In the past, he was active in pool and bowling leagues in the York area. He was a US Army veteran who served in Patton's 3rd Army-4th Armored Division in France and Germany in WWII, where he received a Bronze Star for heroism and bravery under fire and he served in the National Guard. Mr. Middleton leaves four sons: Donald L. Middleton and his wife Patricia of Manchester, Dennis B. Middleton and his wife Carol of York, Kent G. Middleton of Philadelphia, and Keith D. Middleton of Dover; three daughters: Kay B. Roche and her husband Barry of York, Sonja B. Gilmore of York and Linda D. Hoffman and her husband James of Missouri, 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren,a great, great grandchild and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four grandchildren: Timothy, David, Bryan, and Stephen; a brother, Frank and three sisters: Virginia, Iva, and Violet.
