Leroy "Sonny" L. Poff

YORK- Leroy L. “Sonny” Poff, 82, of Windsor Township, passed away Friday, January 8, 2021 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Dorothy M. “Dottie” (Walters) Poff. The couple celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on October 18, 2020. Burial was private in Yorkana United Methodist Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held from 4-7 p.m. on July 28, 2021 at Wisehaven Event Center, 2985 E. Prospect Rd. in York Sonny was born in Yorkana on January 2, 1939, the son of the late Spurgeon M. and Helen (Crumling) Poff. He retired from GTE and also worked for York Township. Sonny was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Yorkana. He was a 1956 graduate of Eastern York High School, where he played baseball and basketball. He served in the US Army. He was a life member of both Hellam VFW and Yorkana Game and Gun Club and a member of Dallastown American Legion. He played baseball for: York County Amateur League, Twilight League, Susquehanna League, Central League, and York County Old Timers Baseball League. He supported East Prospect and Hellam baseball games with his buddies. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and going to his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. He loved his neighbors on Christensen Road, was very witty and had many PopPop sayings. He enjoyed going to breakfast with many different groups. He enjoyed going hunting and time at his hunting camp in Karthaus, PA, where he enjoyed photographing Elk (and showing everyone the pictures). He was a Steelers and Penn State Football fan (unless they were losing). Sonny leaves two sons, Timothy Poff and his wife Dianne and Kevin Poff and his wife Kristan; a daughter, Melissa Raver and her husband Brett; a daughter-in-law, Dena; ten grandchildren, Cory (Kristen), Casey (Amber), Randi (Timothy), Cody, Kira (Ricky), Andrew, Kylie, Josie, Carl, and Jennifer. Also surviving are seven great grandchildren, Mason, Presley, Stevie, Skylar, Holden, Hutton, and Oakley: a brother Rodney Poff and his wife Bonnie as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Poff, a great granddaughter, Hadley Ann, and two brothers, Carl and Dean Poff.
