ELIZABETHTOWN - Leroy R. Platt, 93, formerly of Danville, IL and the Milton area, died on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown. Leroy was born on July 06, 1918 in New Columbia and was the son of the late John and Mary C. (Beck) Platt. On September 04, 1963, he married the former Freeda K. (Keiser) who survives and have celebrated 48 years as husband and wife. Leroy was a graduate of Bliss Electrical School, Washington, DC and of the Penn State University. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served during WWII in Hawaii. He had worked at Air Track Mfg. Corp., Barker & Williamson, Inc., American Electronics Lab and Philco Ford. He had retired in 1988 from Danville Metal Stamping after 18 years of service. Leroy was a prior member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, Danville, IL and currently a member of the Sell Memorial Chapel, Elizabethtown. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Noon Club, 32nd degree Mason, Richard Vaux #384 Masonic Lodge in Philadelphia, Danville, IL Scottish Rite, Eastern Illinois Shrine Club, and the United Commercial Travelers Council #272. He was also on the board of the Martin Luther King Committee and the board of the Salvation Army, both in Danville, IL. In addition to his wife Freeda, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law; James M. and Donna Platt of York, one daughter; Janice L. Platt of Cincinnati, OH, two grandchildren; Bryan J. Platt of Gaithersburg, MD and Andrew J. Platt of York, three great-grandchildren; Grace E. Platt of Gaithersburg, MD, and Olivia R. Platt and Colin J. Platt, both of York, and one sister; Pearl P. Coup of Lewisburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife; Frances (Kreisher) Platt and three brothers; Carroll A., Blaine E. and Paul E. Platt. There will be a public viewing from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2012 at The Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front St., Milton with a Masonic Service beginning at 10:45 a.m. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. and will be officiated by the Reverend Cheryl L. Berner. Burial will follow in Church Hill (Twin Churches) Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 355 E. Fairchild St., Danville, IL, 61832.
