Leroy Golden

Leroy Golden, 74, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Thursday at Hospice Community Care Geisinger South, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Albany, GA on November 15, 1936, he was a son of the late Ed and Daisy (Braceford) Golden. He moved to Philadelphia in 1953 and then relocated to Wilkes-Barre in 1968 while he was employed by the Lehigh Foundation. He retired from Marona Construction Company in 1993. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Beverly McCloe, who passed away December 2, 2009; brothers and sisters S.B. Golden, William James Golden, Reatha Golden, David Golden, Anna Roberts, Ceola Scott, Maxine Chestnut, R.J. Golden and Ed Golden, Jr. He attended New Covenant Christian Fellowship Church, Wilkes-Barre. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Darryl Carr and his wife, Sondra, Philadelphia; Jerome McCloe and his wife, Lee Ann, Wilkes-Barre; Howard Walker, Dupont; daughters April Walker, Wilkes-Barre; Robin Spence and her fiancé, Keith McDougal, Wilkes-Barre; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; an aunt who is 102 years old, Bobbie Ward, Patterson, NJ; siblings Lalar Franklin, Carnell Golden and wife Juanita, Vera Barney, Daisy Lee Barney, Larry Barney, all of Miami, FL; Mamie Golden, Bensalem; Willie Barney and his wife Ernestine, Orlando, FL; a host of nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law, cousins and friends. Leroy’s family would like to give special recognition to his daughter, April Walker and nephew, Will El Golden for the time and excellent care provided during Leroy’s illness. Homegoing Services will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 48 South River Street, Wilkes-Barre with the Reverend Gloria Watson officiating. Friends may call Sunday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the church. Services have been entrusted to Kniffen O’Malley Funeral home, Inc., 465 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.
