YORK-Leonard Washington Bell, 88, of Hellam Township, died, Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Memorial Hospital in York. He was the husband of the late Louise E. (Ernst) Bell and the late Kathleen “Kitty” Bell. Services will be held privately at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Bell was born in Philadelphia, PA on January 9, 1927, the son of Leonard W. and Mildred (Swett) Bell. He retired after 28 years working as an installer of carpets and flooring for Holmes Carpentry. He later worked for Suburban Gas Company in Marathon, FL. He served in the US Navy during WWII. Mr. Bell enjoyed taxidermy, building model sailing ships, and keepsake boxes. He also enjoyed lobster fishing, antique cars, and riding motorcycles. Mr. Bell leaves a step daughter, Linda L. Scott and her husband Dr. G. Philip of Cape May, NJ, recently of York; a son, William Bell and his wife Noni Bookbinder Bell of Shamong, NJ; a daughter, Kathy Baker and her husband Rick of West Milford, New Jersey; eight grandchildren; Lori Scott, G. Philip Scott, III, Robert Scott and his wife Jessica, Jason Baker and his wife Joanne, Debra Robbins and her husband Byron, William J. Bell, Jr. and his fiancée Jenna Carrell, Jaime Earle and her husband, Jason, Sr. and Leonard Bell; and numerous great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a son, Leonard Bell, a step-son, Robert Sundermeier, and his brother, Charles.
