Windsor—Leonard E. Metzger, 81, peacefully passed away with his family by his side, Thursday, December 24, 2009 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Margaret V. (Adams) Metzger with whom he celebrated 61 years of marriage on September 4th. A funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Life Tributes by Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc, 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, with the Rev. William Miller II, officiating. Viewings will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, and 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral chapel. Burial will be held in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Born September 21, 1928 in Danville, he was a son of the late Walter E. and Annabelle (Hake) Metzger. He began his employment as a truck driver in 1952 with International Furniture in Montoursville. Throughout his career he also worked with Halls Trucking and various other companies, before retiring from Consolidated Freight Ways in 1994. He was a member of the Teamsters Local in York and Mechanicsburg. He loved camping and traveling with his wife, for the past 9 years, they would spend months traveling through Florida in their RV. He also enjoyed family gathering, working on cars and watching NASCAR and sports with his family. In addition to his wife, Mr. Metzger is also survived by, two sons, Leonard G. Metzger of Red Lion, Ronald E. Metzger and his wife, Deb, of Windsor, two daughters, Donna J. Coble and her husband, James of Elizabethtown, and Yvonne M. Kline of York, 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, three sisters, Mildred A. Weatherill, Vivian E. Houseknecht and Doris P. Dawson, all of Danville and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Troy A. Coble and four brothers, Donald, Clyde, Ralph and Lester. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association of PA, 3001 Old Gettysburg Rd, Camp Hill, Pa 17011.
