Leonard B. Kopera

Len Kopera, 72 passed away at home on Thursday, June 1, 2017. He was the husband of Debbie (Wayne) Kopera. Len was born in Lancaster on June 22, 1945 the son of the late Virginia and Casimer Kopera. He was a 1963 graduate of York Catholic High School. In 1968 he earned a B.S. degree in Secondary Education from Union College, Barbourville, Kentucky in the area of Social Studies. He worked for 35 years as an Income Maintenance Caseworker for the York County Assistance Office. As it was, a new chartered course awaited him soon after retirement. Len decided it was his earlier endearment for education that awaited him. And it was there Len (“Mr. K” as he was known) began to substitute teach with the West York School District and ultimately among the dear students, faculty, and community of Dover Schools. And thus it was…15 years as his glorious journey continued. A journey he shared with a forever grateful family. Len is survived by his wife, two sons Dave, Bryan and his wife Lucy. Grandsons Cameron and Zachary, who are his greatest joys. He loved spending time with Cameron and was looking forward to working with his kindergarten studies or as Len would say “help to stay on task.” Len and Debbie would have celebrated their 50th anniversary on July 1st. He will be missed and always in our thoughts! WE LOVE YOU PAPAW. A Celebration of Life Tribute will be held from 1-3PM, Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to those as your heart desires.
