BROGUE- Leo A. Kane, 84, of Chanceford Township, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2017 at York Hospital after a short illness. He was the husband of the late Anna Marie (McDonnell) Kane. Services will be held at the Bethel United Methodist Church 1674 Furnace Road, Brogue PA on November 11, 2017. Visitation with the family will begin at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11am with a flag folding by York County Veterans Honor Guard at the start of the service. Pastor Kim Cartwright will be officiating at the service. A luncheon will be immediately following the service at the church. A private burial is planned for a later date at Highview Memorial Gardens Fallston MD. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Kane was born Leo A Kensicki, later changed to Kane, in Baltimore, MD on April 21, 1933. He grew up in Sparrows Point, Maryland, where he was the youngest son of the late Milton (Kensicki) Kane, and the late Anna Regina (Golumbuski) Kane. He was preceded in death by his brothers John Milton, and Richard Kane all of the Baltimore/Sparrows Point area. Mr. Kane leaves behind a son, Leo M. Kane of Felton, PA, two daughters, Lynn M. (Kane) Heaps and Deanna M. Kane both of Brogue, PA. Also surviving is his granddaughter Kayla M. Heaps of Chanceford Township, as well as several nieces and nephews. Graduating from the Sparrows Point High School, Mr. Kane enlisted in the United States Air Force on February 4, 1952 serving four years during the Korean War. As an Airman in the Strategic Air Command, in the Second Air Force and Second Bombardment Wing he worked on the historic B-29 and B-52 Bomber planes at the now decommissioned March Air Force Base in Riverside California. He also spent time deployed to England and Africa. After the Air Force, Mr. Kane worked at the Bethlehem Steel Mill in Sparrows Point, MD before going to work for Western Electric in Cockeysville Maryland. During which time he attended Johns Hopkins University, in Baltimore, Maryland graduating May 25, 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. In March 1989 he retired from Lucent Technology, Nashua New Hampshire. From there he resided in Parksley Virginia where he enjoyed volunteering at the Assateague Island, VA Federal Wildlife Refuge and enjoyed painting specialized ceramics. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St Jude Children’s Hospital or The Paralyzed Veterans of the USA.
