Lenore (Jones) Aston

WILKES-BARRE-Lenore Aston, 92, a lifelong resident of Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 5, 2013 in Virginia with her daughter Marybeth by her side. Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Beatrice (Reese) Jones. She graduated from Meyers High School in 1938 where she was a cheerleader and performed in musicals. Lenore was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Firwood Senior Citizens. She was also a member of several bridge clubs. She served in World War II from December, 1941 until December 21, 1945 in Italy as a stenographer for the Women’s Army Corps. Following the war, she married Trevor Aston who passed away in 1989. They had three children: Peggy , Bob and Marybeth. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her her son, Bob Aston, who passed away in November, 2012, and a brother, Hugh Jones, Jr. Lenore worked for many years as a legal secretary at the Luzerne County Courthouse and was working for Judge Brominski when she retired. She is survived by her daughters, Peggy Harris and husband, Bill of Mountain Top and Mary Beth Lawrence and her husband, Wayne of Richmond, VA; grandchildren Jim and Kristen Harris and their daughter Gracie Jane, Philadelphia; Megan and Bill Loscomb and their daughter, Ella of Johnson, VT; Drs. Matthew and Michelle Lawrence; Aston Jay and Tiffany Lawrence and their son, Trevor; and Elizabeth Lawrence, all of Virginia. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A memorial service will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Kniffen O’Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 465 S. Main Street, Wilkes-Barre with the Reverend Anne M. Emery officiating. Friends may call Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Private interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.
