MOUNTAINTOP-Leavata Scott Tyler, 80, of Mountaintop, passed away Friday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township. Born on June 2, 1927 in Marion, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late William and Nellie (Davis) Scott. She was a graduate of Marion Harding High School, Marion, Ohio. She attended the Erma Lee School of Cosmetology in Cleveland and afterward owned and operated her own salon in Marion. Mrs. Tyler was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served as assistant choir director. She was also a secretary and lifetime member of the NAACP. For 22 years, she was the Banquet Director for the Warren G. Harding Hotel. Prior to her retirement, she worked as the Director of Environmental Services at Marion General Hospital. After retiring, she attended Columbus State University where she attained her Associates degree in Business. Her husband, Lloyd H. Tyler, passed away in March, 1996. Brothers William and Calvin Scott also preceded her in death. Surviving are her son, Phil Scott, Marion, Ohio; daughters Cynthia D. Rackley, Mountaintop; Theresa Tyler-Smith and her husband, the Reverend Wallace Smith, Mountaintop; grandchildren Jeremy Rackley and Marcus Tyler; 1 great grandchild; brother Otis B. Scott and his wife, Elizabeth, North Carolina; sister Mary B. Houston, Marion, Ohio; a host of nieces and nephews. Homegoing services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at New Covenant Christian Fellowship, 780 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. The Reverend Jack Scott will officiate and the Reverend Wallace Smith will eulogize. Interment will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 465 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, is in charge of arrangements.
