Lawrence W. Adams

DALLASTOWN- Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Lawrence “Larry” William Adams, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on February 1, 2023 following a brief illness.

Born on September 18, 1943, Larry was the son of the late William H. and Ruby F. Adams. He grew up in Kittanning, PA and graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1966 with a bachelor's degree in education. After spending his first year of teaching in St. Marys, PA, he married his wife, Karen, in 1967 and they moved to Dallastown to begin their careers and start their family. Larry retired after 31 years in the Dallastown Area School District where he taught Social Studies in the high school, coached football, and served as the Athletic Director for most of his career. He was a committed educator and advocate for student athletics; his work paved the way for what a full-time High School Athletic Director position looks like today and the success of Dallastown Athletics, both boys and girls programs, can be attributed to his tireless efforts over many years of service. Upon his retirement from Dallastown, he followed another one of his passions…golf. He worked at Springwood Golf Club, Outdoor Country Club, and Regents’ Glen Country Club until he fully retired and was then able to spend more time in one of his favorite places, Emerald Isle, NC, where they had a second home and the family vacationed for more than 30 years. Larry was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Penn State Nittany Lions. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors Association, Victory Athletic Association, Elks Lodge, and Bethlehem United Methodist Church.

But the most important parts of Larry’s life were his family and friends. In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by four daughters, Erin Adams-Ports (Brian) of York, Kristin Adams (Miami, FL), Beth Fromherz (Chris) of Davidsonville, MD, and Meredith Adams-Krouse (Doug) of Doylestown, PA, who blessed him with seven grandchildren, Nick, Ian, Jack, Ella, William, Ava, and Rowan. Throughout his long and happy life, he treasured his wide circle of friends, especially his childhood friends of more than 70 years, “The Cellar Dwellers.” He will be missed tremendously by those who loved him, but at long last may rest in peace and is free of the pain that plagued his final years. Larry’s family would like to thank all of the healthcare professionals who treated and cared for him over the last month of his life at York and WellSpan Rehab Hospitals.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you honor him with a contribution to the S.P.C.A. of York County, www.yspca.org. A memorial service to celebrate his life is planned for Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 2:00PM at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 109 East Main St., Dallastown with visitation beginning at 1:00PM. The service will be live streamed at HeffnerCare.com starting around 2 p.m. by searching Larry’s obituary. Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion is in charge of arrangements.
