Laverne T. Whaley, Sr.

WILLIAMSPORT - Laverne T. Whaley, Sr., 86, died on Monday, January 3, 2011 at his residence. Laverne was born on December 21, 1924 in Orangeburg, SC and was the son of the late Shelly and Jalanie (Daniels) Whaley. He was a graduate of the Williamsport High School and was a Pvt. with the US Army and served during WWII. He was married to the late Frances S. (White) for over 20 years before her death. Laverne had retired from the City of Williamsport, Parks and Highways after serving over 30 years. He was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing and watching sports. Laverne is survived by one son; Laverne T. Whaley, Jr. of Williamsport, two grandchildren; Sonya and Trevor Whaley, both of Williamsport, two brothers and one sister-in-law; Ronald and Marlene Whaley and George Whaley, all of Williamsport and one sister; Gertrude Todd of Williamsport. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. There will be a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2011 at the Montoursville Cemetery with Pastor Reverend Sam Washington officiating. Arrangements are being handled by the Allen & Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira St., Williamsport.
