Laverne M. Baum

YORK—LaVerne M. (Showers) Baum, 86, passed away Monday January 17, 2022 at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Ralph L. Baum to whom she was married for 57 years. A Celebration to Life Service will be 4PM, Saturday February 26, 2022 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 397 Tyler Run Rd, York. Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Born October 22, 1935 in Dalmatia, Northumberland Co., she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (Martz) Showers. She was employed with Caterpillar for 35 years in their human resources department until her retirement in 1989. A member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, she also enjoyed bird watching, listening to music such as the Bee Gees and songs from the Rat Pack. She was a 1954 graduate of William Penn High School and an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan. Mrs. Baum is survived by one daughter, Stephanie Anderson and husband, Mark of York; nine grandchildren, Wesley, Ryan, Megan, Michael, Emily, William, Kayleigh, Aaron and Sierra; three great grandchildren, Wilhelmina, Augustus and Benjamin and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Paul Showers. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to SPCA, 3159 N. Susquehanna Trail, York, Pa 17406.
