YORK - Laverne Eugene “Bud” Ness, Sr., 86, of Longstown Village, formerly of Loganville passed from the company of his family and friends, into the presence of God on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at his residence. He will be truly missed by his loving wife, Betty Louise (Ritz) Ness of 65 years and his family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2014 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion, with a viewing from 9-10:30 a.m. The family invites attendee’s of the service to dress casually. Burial will be held at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full military honors by Dallastown American Legion. Bud was born in Springfield Township on January 11, 1928, the son of the late Charles G. and Helen M. (Ness) Ness. He retired as a truck driver from McCrory’s Corporation after 17 years of service. Prior to that he owned and operated “Ness 66” Service Station and lunch room on South George Street in York. Bud was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Jacobus, Dallastown American Legion, Post 605, and Viking Athletic Association. He served in the US Army in Regensburg, Germany achieving the rank of T/5. Bud was a faithful and loving husband and father who enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Along with his wife Betty he leaves a son, Laverne E. Ness, Jr. and his wife Linda of Seven Valleys, a daughter, Linda L. Goodling of York; four grandchildren, Crystal Glusco and her husband Andy, Julie Barley and her husband Mike, Stacy Bainbridge and her husband Anthony, and Joel Ness and his wife Joleta; 11 great grandchildren; two brothers, Charles and Mahlon Ness, and two sisters, Janice Force and Ruth Bahn. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Blanche Kreiser, Miriam Stremmel, and Beatrice Innerst; and two brothers, Ray and Richard Ness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 200 North Main Street, Jacobus, PA 17407 or Ronald McDonald House Charities, 745 West Governor Rd., Hershey, PA 17033.
