Larry S. Guise

Larry Guise, 74, of York, Pennsylvania passed away at York Hospital on December 17, 2020 after complications from an accident he suffered at home in October. He was the beloved husband of Judy (Dehoff) Guise and they would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary in March. Born on July 31, 1946 in York, he was the son of the late Robert and Althea (Smith) Guise. He was a loyal member of Codorus Church of the Brethren, where he has been a member since returning to York in 2003. Larry is survived by his sister Kathy and her husband Barry of York; his son Scott and his wife Jill of Red Lion; and his son Mark and his wife Tanya of Ephrata. He was the proud Poppa to his four grandchildren Carly (20), Shane (17), Addison (11), and Olivia (9). Larry graduated from West York High School in 1964 before matriculating at Penn State University where he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. He began his career at Borg Warner (later York International) as a mechanical engineer in 1968. He would work for the company his entire career with stops in York, Elyria, Ohio, and Norman, Oklahoma before returning to York where he retired in 2010. He met Judy on a blind date in 1968 and the pair were married six months later on March 29, 1969. They celebrated their 50th anniversary with a family trip to the Dominican Republic in the summer of 2019. They enjoyed traveling with friends and spending time with their children and grandchildren. He especially savored the family’s annual beach trip and many hotly contested games of Phase 10. Larry was very active at Codorus as he was a member of various church committees, taught Sunday School for over 20 years, and volunteered for various tasks within the congregation. He was always willing to lend a hand to any task that needed to be completed. He was engaged in his grandchildren’s lives as he was a consistent presence at their extracurricular activities. He enjoyed getting to spend time with his family. Larry was active as an avid walker and took great pride in the care of his home. He enjoyed taking on projects around the house and loved assisting his sons in their home improvement projects. The family will hold a Celebration of Life service at a future date in the spring of 2021. Memorial contributions can be made in Larry’s honor to Community REACH, 15 First Ave. Red Lion, PA 17356.
